Broadmeadow Magic will host Adamstown Rosebud at Magic Park on Monday as they look for consecutive home wins.

Broadmeadow entered the top five for the first time this season with an impressive 3-1 midweek win over Lambton Jaffas and 3-0 win over Lake Macquarie City last week.

Despite a slow start to the season with a number of disappointing results Broadmeadow Magic are slowly finding their feet, and the back of the net with a recent 3-0 victory over Charlestown City Blues as well.

Adamstown Rosebud still sits in ninth, but is just three points shy of Broadmeadow Magic in fifth and is coming off the back of a 1-0 win over the then top of the table Edgeworth Eagles.

Adamstown Rosebud Coach Anthony Richards said “it was great to be the team to beat them, but we know it will be a very tough game against Magic next week” and his side knows what to expect against the premiers at home.

These sides met in a rescheduled midweek fixture from round 1 that Broadmeadow Magic won 3-2 at Adamstown Oval.

Adamstown finished that game on top and showed they could compete with the top sides and that performance was a catalyst for results to come. In a very exciting match let’s hope this one has a lot to offer as well.

After handing Edgeworth their first defeat of the season the visitors go into this match full of confidence, Broadmeadow Magic are finding form and will look to cement themselves in the top five now just four points off top spot.

It should be a fantastic game in our match of the round on Monday and with no other matches being played on that day a great chance to see it live at the ground or via the live BARTV footage.

Newcastle Jets Youth and Edgeworth Eagles meet in a top of the table clash at Jack McLaughlan Oval on Saturday.

Both sides have exchanged top spot in recent weeks after mixed results and now get to claim it again as they face each other head to head this weekend.

Newcastle Jets Youth regained their one point lead over Edgeworth last week after the Eagles lost their first match of the season against Adamstown Rosebud.

The Jets Youth managed a 1-1 draw against Hamilton Olympic despite dominating proceedings early on and having a one goal lead.

It was Edgeworth who regained top spot the week before, after their convincing 4-1 win over Broadmeadow Magic while the Newcastle Jets Youth fell 2-0 to Lambton Jaffas at Arthur Edden Oval.

The competition is heating up and despite a runaway top four early on, just seven points now separates first from ninth on the ladder at the half way point of the season.

The first time these sides met at Jack McLaughlan Oval the match was abandoned at half time with the scores locked at 0-0 with torrential rain spoiling the affair. Both sides were fairly evenly matched but a bit rusty on the opening night of the season.

That match was replayed and Edgeworth Eagles controlled proceedings with a comfortable 2-0 win in a very solid performance at home.

Both sides will look to improve on their performances last week as Newcastle Jets Youth let their lead slip and failed to consolidate the result early on while Edgeworth Eagles will look to bounce back after their first loss of the season. 

It will be a great game and both sides know how vital the three points will be as they cross the half way mark of the competition.

 

Charlestown City Blues FC v Lambton Jaffas FC

Charlestown City Blues looks to regain their form as they return home and welcome Lambton Jaffas to Lisle Carr Oval on Sunday.

Charlestown gave up a two goal lead against Weston Workers last week only to take away a point from a game they looked well in control of early in the second half.

While showing some very promising signs early on they will look to compete for the full 90 minutes this weekend and avoid the same issues that saw them lose vital points.

Lambton Jaffas needed a last minute winner to earn all three points against South Cardiff at Ulinga Oval in a hard fought win that was affected by rain. Four goals came in the final 20 minutes along with the rain.

Lambton Jaffas move up to fourth on the ladder while Charlestown City Blues are in seventh after picking up just one point in their last two matches, still just three points behind their opponents this weekend.

Charlestown went down 3-1 to Lake Macquarie City before the 3-3 draw against Weston Workers and Coach Shane Pryce wants his side to limit some of the crucial errors that have been letting his side down.

In a turbulent season so far, the Blues have displayed some impressive form in big wins over South Cardiff and Adamstown but have also been on the end of some disappointing results, in a competitive field they will look for consistency in the second half of the season.

The first time these sides met Charlestown City won 3-1 at Arthur Edden Oval with Lambton’s defence letting them down on the day.

Now away from home, they know they will face a difficult task and David Tanchevski said “we want to get points from the big games now, and a few consecutive wins will make a big difference in this competition. We had a difficult start to the season with injuries but are hitting some form now, despite the loss to Magic we have had some really good recent results.”

Results including draws against Hamilton Olympic and Edgeworth, Lambton has gone onto beat Newcastle Jets Youth and South Cardiff and is in sight of the leader board now just two points behind second and third and three points off the leaders.

It should be another highly competitive and entertaining match between these sides. Lambton hope for the return of Jobe Wheelhouse but will likely appear off the bench if he is to return this weekend.

Lake Macquarie City welcomes Weston Workers to Macquarie Field on Sunday with both sides hungry for a win.

Lake Macquarie City went down 3-0 to Broadmeadow Magic last week which sees them remain bottom of the table at the halfway point of the competition.

They will be encouraged though after picking up their first win against Charlestown City Blues the week before and drawing with both Newcastle Jets Youth and Edgeworth in earlier matches.

Lake Macquarie have shown they have been able to compete for 90 minutes and get the results they need after a difficult start to the season, and will look to bounce back from the loss last week to regain some of that form.

Weston Workers are without a win in their last five matches and slip to sixth on the ladder after being undefeated in their first four games.

Weston Workers Coach Steve Piggott was pleased with the fight his side put in away from home last week to salvage a point and will look for his side to show that same determination away from home this weekend.

The first time these sides met Weston Workers won 3-1 at Rockwell Automation Park as Lake Macquarie made a slow start but came out aggressive after the break.

Lake Macquarie City are now five points adrift at the bottom of the table while Weston Workers chase a long awaited win which will bring a sigh of the relief to the club. It should be a great contest at Macquarie Field on Sunday.

 

South Cardiff FC v Hamilton Olympic FC

South Cardiff welcomes Hamilton Olympic to Ulinga Oval looking to bounce back after a narrow loss last weekend.

Despite being under pressure early at home last week South Cardiff managed to level the scores late in the second half but conceded a winner in the final seconds.

Prior to that they put in a fantastic performance away to Weston Workers to secure a 1-0 win and have recorded three wins out of their opening nine matches, with several three pointers gone begging in earlier matches.

Hamilton Olympic came out strong in the second half to deter an energetic Newcastle Jets Youth side last week to record a 1-1 draw at home and is now undefeated in its last five games.

In that stretch though they have just two wins along with three draws but Michael Bolch has credited his side for there fighting spirit in many of those results.

Still sitting promisingly in third, Hamilton Olympic will look for a similar performance that saw them defeat South Cardiff 4-2 on the opening day of the season.

The Gunners still fought back to pressure the home side in typical fashion, as they managed last week against Lambton Jaffas, and Olympic will know they have to put in a good performance away from home.
