The SUNS hosted the Highfields Lions and for the first time an Aussie Rules game was played on the Chinchilla Sports Ground, with the SUNS running out 9.15 (69) to 7.12 (54) victors.
Low scoring, defensive game at possibly the future new home of the SUNS, as gun Kristian Muir booted 4 important majors in Chinchilla's 5th win of the season. The win didn't come easy as both sides went shot for shot, with the SUNS making the most of their opportunities in attack holding a slender 5-point lead at the first break.
It was another tight arm wrestle in the second term but it was again the home side that was able to kick away but their inaccuracy kept the visitors in the hunt going into the long break.
Up by 21-points, the SUNS had almost double the scoring shots but had the wobbles in front of the sticks.
Both sides came out fired up after the half-time interval and again went blow for blow but a late goal to the SUNS in the third quarter saw them stretch out their half-time score to 27-points. Nathan Stubna was the go to man for the SUNS, as the Lions struggled to make amends for their second quarter lapse.
Something clicked at the final break however for the Lions, as they kept the SUNS goal-less in the final term and booted to of 2 of their own. This could have been more as the Lions booted 4 behinds that should have been goals, Carl Stevenson was the number 1 Lion on the day and his efforts were tireless.
It was too late as the SUNS ran out 15-point victors and collected the 4 premiership points to remain in outright third on the ladder.
Swannies dream of finals, still alive
Dalby have kept their slim finals hopes alive with their first win of the season with their 129-point win over South Toowoomba. Ben Banks booted 6 as the key forward became the outright leader on the goal-kicking ladder for Division 2.
The Swannies turned back the clock with premiership junior players Lachlan Thomas and Tye Hughes returning for the red and white.
For the Bombers it was an opportunity for a few players to return from injury with Shaun Montgomery returning with limited preparation booting 3 for South Toowoomba.
Final Score: Dalby 26.17 (173) def. South Toowoomba 6.8 (44)
Reddies no match for in-form Saints
South Burnett have made it 4 wins in a row after the Saints marched to an impressive 136-point victory over Warwick at Reddies Oval.
Saint Bowater was superb, showing age is no barrier as the veteran dominated game clearances and booted 4 goals of his own. South Burnett started slowly in the 1st term but fixed that as they booted 7 goals in each of the remaining quarters.
Upcoming star Josh Read was superb for the Redbacks and no doubt isn't far off a division 1 call up after his best on ground performance for Warwick.
Final Score: South Burnett 23.20 (158) def. Warwick 3.4 (22)
