Randell tips Subi turnaround

Subiaco midfielder Alex Randell is confident the top-flight newcomers can turn around their fortunes in the National Premier Leagues WA after showing positive signs in recent performances.

The western suburbs club kicked off life in the NPL WA with a draw against last season’s league winners Stirling Lions but have been unable to secure a point since.

On Saturday, they will hoping for a change in circumstances when they travel north to take on ECU Joondalup.

Subiaco went within a whisker of earning a draw against Perth last weekend before Clark Keltie popped up to score a last-minute winner for the visitors to the WA Athletics Stadium.

And despite having suffered other costly late lapses, it has failed to dampen their spirits.

“It’s not the first time we have gone down in the last minute in games this season,” Randell said.

“But if we keep putting in performances of that level, we won’t be at the bottom of the table come the end of the season.”

Subiaco have also been lifted by the prospect of reaching the final 32 of the new FFA Cup after earning a place in Monday’s Cool Ridge Cup semi-finals against Bayswater City at the WA Athletics Stadium.

ECU Joondalup will take on Stirling Lions in Monday’s other semi-final at the ECU Football Stadium with the winners of both matches to represent WA on the national stage.

At Intiga Stadium on Saturday, Inglewood United’s Teeboy Kamara will put aside talk of a return to the Hyundai A-League to focus on NPL WA duties against Perth Glory.

Kamara, who has made an immediate impact at Inglewood since joining this season, has spoken to clubs about a return to Australian football’s domestic elite but is determined to give everything to United this season before considering his next move.

“I have spoken to a couple of A-League clubs regarding next season but that is the furthest thing from my mind at the moment. I’m just happy to be back playing football again and helping Inglewood into the end-of-season finals.”
