Redbacks hold out Roos in fiery clash
WARWICK held off a late charge from defending premiers Coolaroo to record their seventh-straight AFL Darling Downs victory at Gold Park on Saturday.
The unbeaten Redbacks were kept goal-less in the final quarter but they did enough in defence to topple the Roos 9.15 (69) to 9.11 (65).
Warwick led at every change but an inaccurate 2.6 to 4.0 third quarter kept Coolaroo in the hunt.
It was all the Roos in the final term but they couldn't strike the killer blow, kicking 1.6 to Warwick's 0.4 to go down by four points.
In the weekend's other matches, Goondiwindi has reignited its finals hopes with a much-needed 15.2 (92) to 13.8 (86) win over South Toowoomba at Heritage Oval.
The Hawks had not won since the opening round and were in danger of losing touch with the top four.
But they turned their season around with near-perfect day in front of goal against the Bombers.
Adam Scoble and Brenton Jardine led the way with four goals each while Dan McPhee kicked five for Souths.
Meanwhile, University made it three-straight wins with a 17.14 (116) to 12.11 (83) victory over Highfields.
Miels Grice led a spirited charge for the Lions with five goals but it wasn't enough to take down Uni.
Finally, the Toowoomba Tigers are finally on the board after claiming a 21.19 (145) to 2.5 (17) win over Lockyer Valley.
The Tigers have struggled for numbers this season but they rediscovered their best form against the Demons.
