Crows Assistant Coach continues his weekly wrap up and this week reviews the Darling Downs V Redland AFLBJ clash.
The Carmichael Builders Darling Downs Crows were in action again on Sunday as they hosted the Redland Sharks at the picturesque USQ Oval.
The Crows were searching for their first win of the season while their Brisbane based counterparts were looking to cement their spot at the pointy end of the ladder.
The Darling Downs boys welcomed back co-captain Tom Matthews as well as midfield gun Sam Tasker to bolster a side that had shown great signs the previous week where they pushed the Calamvale Leopards.
Unfortunately the pre-match confidence proved to be unfounded as the Sharks put on a superb performance of running, team orientated football. Once again our opponents clearly outsized us, a couple of the Redland lads could quite easily have held down a key position spot in our local Division 1 competition such was there physique.
It’s no shame being beaten by a better side as long as you come off knowing that you have done your best. The Crows never stopped trying and the final 77 point margin didn’t really give an accurate indication of how hard the boys tried. I’m sure a valuable lesson was learned by these young men and I’m looking forward to seeing how they respond when they return to action, I’m tipping we will see a vastly improved performance. We now know the level we need to be at to be competitive and the only way to get there is through hard work. Time to roll up the sleeves boys!
