Country have convincingly defeated City in the annual AFL Darling Downs City verse Country clash in Kingaroy over the weekend.
Country ran out 24.18 (162) to 4.10 (34) in the one sided encounter.
Goondiwindi's Jeremy Leahy and Warwick's Brendan Iles tore their city opponents apart, with Leahy awarded the Chris Guice Medal as best on ground in the match.
Co-Captain Iles said he was surprised by the scoreline but said the intensity and pace was first class.
"It is a great opportunity to play for Country and an honour to lead a talented bunch of players onto the field," he said.
"We had plenty of leaders in the team so it made my job easy. The speed of the game was a lot faster than club footy."
Tom North was in attendance and flew up from Victoria to present the shield named after himself, presenting it to Co-Captains Jeremy Leahy and Brendan Iles in front of a strong crowd. Coach Ben Adams was pleased with the outcome but understood City were undermanned.
"Great result and the way the (country) lads came together, is a credit to themselves," Adams said after accepting the shield.
"It would of been great if City were full strength but we (Country) came here to do a job and we got that job done and proved that it doesn't matter where you live, success comes from hard work."
From here AFL Darling Downs will select a squad of 23 to take on AFL Northern Rivers in June and from the result the final squad should be Country dominated. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for the final make up of the squad.
