Darling Downs have proven to be too good in the inaugural representative clash against Wide Bay. DD ran out 26.19 (175) to 0.1 (1) victors.
Wide Bay fielded a relatively inexperienced side but Darling Downs didn't take the match up lightly with strong performances right across the paddock. Returning Queensland players Georgie Seaniger and Isabelle Baldock showed why they are at the top of their game returning from Nationals and booting four majors a piece in the showcase game.
Baldock was judged best on ground for the game with her tireless efforts and elite second and third efforts.
Women's representative coach Jeff Neumann was pleased with the result and proved that the Darling Downs region are taking female football seriously.
"Overall a great result for footy in our region, we are taking female footy seriously and it is here to stay," Neumann said.
"Though the result was one sided, I must congratulate Wide Bay for been apart of this game changing clash.
"Going back even 2-3 years ago, this was not available now we are giving all female footballers the same pathway as their male counterparts and they are loving it," Neumann added.
From this game AFL Queensland will select players from both regions to be a-part of the Female All-Stars game on June 8th from where a Queensland women's side will be selected to take on Tasmania later in the year.
"We have some very talented female footballers and I would expect a few of our players to go through to that game and represent Queensland," Jeff Neumann told AFLDD media.
