The Mallee Football League pushes into round 5 this weekend, and the season is starting to take some shape. The first match of the round sees Jeparit-Rainbow host Hopetoun. Hopetoun have improved every week and are coming off a colossal 69 point, which gave them their first points for the season. Coleman Schache has been a handy inclusion for the devils over the past two matches and will need to be closely held by the Lakers. His efforts seem to have inspired the likes of Liam Price and Jackson Fisher who are playing some classy football, they will be players to watch for Heath Clugston, Luke Werner, and Elliot Bath. Utility Lucas Cook has moved into the Hopetoun forward line and is providing a good target for his team. Tyler Edelsten played well in defence last week for the Lakers and could shape as someone to keep a tight rein on the Hopetoun attack. The Lakers midfield will have a lot of work to do against a young, confident Hopetoun outfit.
The second match of the round is looking every bit like being an absolute classic. Sea Lake-Nandaly Tigers are at home to Beulah in a match that pits the two undefeated teams against each other. Both teams have so far dominated their opponents in all aspects of the game, and put on some absolute clinics. The Tigers forward line has been a particular pleasure to watch this year after the return of Jarrod Arentz, and the performances of Simon Weekly. The Blues will be anticipating the return of Kim Hallam to hold one of these two down. Beulah new recruit, Michael Farrelley muscled his way into a best on ground performance last week, and along with Shaun Monohan, will be difficult to contain for an entire match. Sea Lake-Nandaly aren't without their premier midfielders however, as they welcomed Colin Durie back to form last week and Tom Summerhayes has been playing well. This match is proving to be a difficult one to tip a winner and it will be interesting to see how it pans out.
The final game sees Woomelang-Lascelles travel north to take on Walpeup-Underbool who were well and truly beaten last week and remain winless for the year. On home soil and hurting from last week they will be a different side, and Woomelang-Lascelles should be wary. Joshua Plozza and Ryan Stacey have been working well around the ground and will need to continue this form if they are to match it with the best of the Cats. For the Cats to get up they will need another bag from big forward Jayden Lonergan, and for Corey Kelly to put a few through as well.
Ouyen United have the bye this week.
