The Nation’s capital will play host to the 4th AFL Youth Girls National Championships. AFL Canberra have confirmed that brand new stadium, Gungahlin Town Centre Oval will be the key venue for the Championships to be contested between May 3rd to 8th.
For the first time Northern Territory and Tasmania will send a combined team. Both are in early developments of their domestic Youth Girls competitions so the Nationals provides a safe way to provide challenges for their better players whilst they continue to grow their local participation numbers.
The Woomeras (a combined team from the Kickstart female championships in 2013) will also participate for the first time. This team provides opportunities for Aboriginal girls who may not have access to mainstream competitions being from remote and isolated communities as well as large rural towns. Their unique brand of football will add great excitement to the overall atmosphere of the carnival.
