For the 11th time in 13 seasons, the coveted Anzac Cup has again been proudly placed in the Warwick Credit Union Redbacks' trophy cabinet.
An extremely hard-fought game that could have gone either way right throughout the day was only sealed with a blistering six-goal burst in the final quarter with the Redbacks beating the USQ Cougars 15.10.(100) to 7. 9.(51).
The Reddies led at every change, 15 points at quarter time, 16 points at the main break and an even-scoring third term saw the lead remain at 16 points.
The goal blitz started early in the final quarter with the Reddies mid-field of Brendan Iles, Kurt Millard, Alex Pitt, Thye Clarkson and Adam Stevenson taking the game by the throat and feeding the forward line with speed and accuracy.
Mitchell Quaife used his body to advantage in the packs, opening up the forward line for the final onslaught.
The Reddies' defence was as tight as ever with Coen Slatter, Tony Chandler and Shannon Cameron being as mean as ever in what they gave away. In four games now the defence has leaked on average only four goals a game - an outstanding effort.
USQ remain in second spot on the ladder and are without doubt a team to be watched come September.
They boast a very good forward line and a lot of speed through the mid-field and any club that takes them lightly would do so at their own risk.
The Warwick branch of the Veterans Support and Advocacy Service Australia (VSASA) paid tribute to the fallen Anzacs and all who have served and are still serving in the Defence Forces.
It was a commemoration service that was both poignant and inspirational to spectators and players alike.
The Redbacks thank VSASA for their long standing support on Saturday and in the years to come.
