Maclaren magic hits Army for six

Report by Hudson Herron

Four goals from Australian youth international Jamie Maclaren helped Perth Glory defeat Armadale 6-0 in their first home win of the season.

A goal from the in-form Harry O'Brien and a converted penalty from Matthew Davies completed the rout.

The win sees Glory move to sixth on the table whilst Armadale sit just two points ahead of top-flight newcomers Subiaco at the bottom of the National Premier Leagues WA table.
Glory coach Scott Miller was understandably thrilled with the massive win.

"It was a great game today by the boys, it shows they're learning,” he said.

“I mentioned last week that we need to get used to the men's game and the players did that, they simply just played their way around Armadale today."

The goal fest started early on in the game as O'Brien opened the scoring in front of the Glory's active supporters, bulging the net after some aggressive play from the youthful side in the eleventh minute.

Just over 15 minutes later, Cameron Edwards showed his experience with a solo effort around the penalty area and then to Maclaren to open his account.

"It was good to get out there today," Maclaren mentioned post game.

"In Australia it's difficult for young professionals to get competitive playing time 12 months of the year, which we need. But it shows that our hard work, it's working."

Maclaren continued his flourish with a neat finish in the 35th minute followed by a thunder bolt in the 65th to complete his maiden hat-trick in the NPL WA competition.

But he wasn't finished there as he put his body on the line in the 78th minute to bag his sixth goal of the season.

O'Brien was unable to covert a late penalty after a strong save by Armadale’s Perth Glory train-on keeper, Matthew Gould.

Davies converted the side’s second awarded penalty kick of the day in the 86th minute to finish off the game and seal a memorable result.
