Adamstown Rosebud 1 - 5 Newcastle Jets Youth

Adamstown Rosebud had a difficult induction to the National Premier League as it suffered a 5-1 defeat at the hands of Newcastle Jets Youth at Adamstown Oval on Saturday.

Beau McDonald and Radavon Pavicevic both bagged a double for the visitors who led by a three goal margin at the half time break.

Adamstown Rosebud looked promising after the break and reduced the deficit with a goal to Nick Bale.

However the visiting Jets Youth were too good on the day with Michael Finlayson opening his account for the season as well to take their tally to five.

With Scott Carter missing between the sticks and a new look back line the home side struggled to contain their mobile opposition.

Adamstown Rosebud Coach Anthony Richards said “the performance wasn’t as bad as the result looks, there were a lot of positives for us to take out of it, but you can’t concede five goals and win games, they were a much better side and were well drilled.”

Adamstown will face Broadmeadow Magic on Wednesday night in a rescheduled Round 1 fixture and then back up in our match of the round against South Cardiff at Adamstown Oval on Monday.

Newcastle Jets Youth will face Broadmeadow Magic next Saturday looking to continue their impressive start in the competition against the premiers.

Lake Macquarie City FC 0 - 3 Lambton Jaffas

Lambton Jaffas recorded their first win of the season and in the process handed Lake Macquarie their second defeat with a convincing 3-0 win at Macquarie Field on Sunday.

A double from John Majurovski gave the visitors a comfortable lead before recruit Kale Bradbery added the third in what was a dominant second half performance from the visitors.

Lambton Jaffas created some chances early with Dino Fajkovic volleying into the side netting in the opening minutes.

Kale Bradbery looked certain to score from long range but saw his effort plucked out of the top corner as Lambton searched for the opener.

Lake Macquarie City created some good chances themselves in a promising opening forty five minutes and forced a good save from Lambton goalkeeper Danny Ireland.

Majurovski provided a classy finish to open the scoring however on thirty minutes as he volleyed home a Tom Smart cross in spectacular fashion.

That gave Lambton a narrow one goal advantage going into the break but Majurovski was on hand to double the visitors lead on the hour mark with a calm finish past the keeper after being played in behind.

Lake Macquarie City Coach Gary Lowe said “it was frustrating performance for us, we didn’t turn up in the second half, our keeper kept us in it with some good saves.”

Lambton Jaffas Coach David Tanchevski said “it was good to get a few goals and keep a clean sheet, we are still not where we need to be but it’s good to get a result in the process.”

Lambton Jaffas return home next where they welcome Weston Workers in a big match up while Lake Macquarie City faces difficult opposition in Hamilton Olympic at Darling Street Oval.

Charlestown City Blues 0 - 0 Hamilton Olympic

Charlestown City Blues and Hamilton Olympic played out an unlikely goalless draw at Lisle Carr Oval on Sunday.

With both sides scoring three and four goals respectively against their opening round opposition, neither side could break the deadlock to go outright top of the table after two rounds.

The home side had the better of the first half after Hamilton Olympic missed two early chances in the opening ten minutes that could have changed proceedings.

Charlestown City Blues found the back of the net after a goal mouth scramble that was contentiously brought back for offside while Kane Goodchild and Troy Hearfield saw their shots go narrowly wide of the back post in quick succession.

The home side looked likely to score as the first half closed out; the most notable along with the disallowed goal was when Goodchild elegantly dribbled his way through the Olympic defence but couldn’t find the back of the net.

Hamilton Olympic came out stronger in the second half and limited Charlestown’s chances in front of goal who found it much harder to break them down, with the visitors probably having the better of proceedings in the final forty five minutes.

Hamilton Olympic Coach Michael Bolch said “a draw was probably a fair result; we both had good chances and things go our way and cancelled each other out in the end.”

Charlestown face Edgeworth Eagles at Jack McLaughlan Oval on Friday night while Hamilton Olympic are at home to Lake Macquarie City on Monday in Round 3 of the competition.

South Cardiff FC 0 - 0 Edgeworth FC

South Cardiff and Edgeworth played out the third nil all draw of the day with just three goals being scored across all four matches of football played on Sunday.

The Gunners will consider themselves unfortunate not to get more out of the match after striking the cross bar on a number of occasions and were left frustrated in front of goal.

Edgeworth looked in control during the early proceedings but the home side came out on top after the break with Dean Kelley and Jarryd Johnson both hitting the woodwork.

The result gives both sides their first point of the season and will no doubt help them take confidence into next week’s fixtures.

South Cardiff Coach Greg Asquith said “a draw was probably a good result in the end, it was a bit scrappy, they probably had the better of it early on but then we came out on top.”

South Cardiff is away to Adamstown on Monday while Edgeworth welcomes Charlestown City Blues to Jack McLaughlan Oval on Friday night.

Broadmeadow Magic FC 0 - 0 Weston Workers FC

Broadmeadow Magic held on to claim a point against a rampant Weston Workers at Wanderers Oval on Sunday.

Broadmeadow Magic goalkeeper Chris Bowling was forced to make a number of quality saves to deny the visitors and some wasteful shooting in front of goal from the Bears also let them down.

Jason Cowburn could have opened the scoring for the visitors after a defensive mishap put him through in front of goal but he sent his shot over the cross bar.

Liam Thornton saw his header go across the front of goal with the keeper out of position and Robbie Turnbull had his powerful close range effort parried away at the near post.

Bowling was on hand again to deny Connor Evans from long range and Cowburn was unable to turn in the rebound as Weston just couldn’t find the back of the net.

Weston Coach Steve Piggott said “I was happy with the performance, but we didn’t execute our chances in front of goal. Their keeper made a couple of top quality saves but we also squandered a lot of chances.”

Broadmeadow Magic has their rescheduled Round 1 fixture against Adamstown on Wednesday night before welcoming Newcastle Jets Youth to Wanderers Oval on Monday.

Weston Workers will take a lot of confidence away from their performance when they meet Lambton Jaffas on at Arthur Edden Oval on Friday.
