Lady Demons look to utilise new home grounds in round three against Warwick
The Lockyer Valley Demons women’s side are eyeing this Sunday’s clash with the Warwick Redbacks as a chance to build a winning record.
The Demons have split their first two games of the season, defeating the Goondiwindi in round one before falling to Dalby in round two.
Lockyer Valley head coach Donna Bowers says her teams close win against Goondiwindi was a great way to start the year and a chance to build confidence.
“Our girls made the long haul to Goondiwindi and picked up a two point win,” Bowers said.
“Our play hasn’t been too bad. We have a number of older players where fitness has been an issue and a few young girls where experience is lacking,” she said.
The Demons will head into round three following a tough 11.7 (73) to 3.3 (21) loss at home against Dalby.
The Lockyer Valley was led by Shania Roy, Natalee Thompson and Chelsea Rose Lee who kicked a goal each.
The match marked the first for the ladies at the Lockyer Valley Demons’s new home grounds situated at Cahill Park in Gatton following the clubs move this year from the Gatton Showgrounds.
The Demons will be at Cahill Park again this Sunday afternoon and face a Warwick side that have yet to play a game this season.
The Redbacks first game against South Toowoomba was cancelled due to rain forcing field closures, while round two was a scheduled bye week.
Coach Donna Bowers says although this is Warwick’s first action of 2014, her team has a fairly good idea of what to expect.
“We played Warwick several times last year and our focus is to stick to the basics,” Bowers said.
“It’s another chance for us to slowly build momentum for the rest of the season,” she said.
The Lockyer Valley Demons will play the Warwick Redbacks Sunday April 13 at 12:30 pm at Cahill Park in Gatton.
