Junior Lockyer Valley player making a name for himself
Although only a junior, Justus Liddicoat is the upcoming player to watch for the Lockyer Valley Demons.
Liddicoat was recently selected to the AFL Darling Downs under-12s representative team which will take part in the Queensland State Championships in Townsville later this year.
A Gatton resident, Liddicoat not only plays for the Lockyer Valley’s under-12s side, but also suits up for the under-14s age group.
And he certainly holds his own.
In the first game of the season for the under-14s Demons, Liddicoat kicked five goals in his squads 18.12 (120) to 8.5 (53) win against Goondiwindi.
Lockyer Valley’s club secretary and women’s head coach Donna Bowers says Justus Liddicoat is a gifted athlete who can bring plenty to the table for any team.
“Justus getting picked for a rep team is a rare exception for us,” Mrs Bowers said.
“He only came to play for us part-way through last season. He doesn’t have an AFL background, but is just the type of kid that is very naturally talented.”
This Saturday at Cahill Park in Gatton, Liddicoat will face the Warwick Redbacks as a member of his club’s under-12s and under-14’s side.
Both of the Demon’s junior squads have split their first two games to start the 2014 campaign and will be looking to add another tick in the win column.
The Lockyer Valley Demons under-12s play the Warwick Redbacks Saturday April 12 at 9:45am at Cahill Park, while the under- 14s begin straight after at 11am.
The 2014 AFL Queensland 12 years and under state championships will be held in Townsville from June 5-8.
