The greatly anticipated grand final match between the ETS Emu’s and Downlands Gryphons stared with a bang as the youthful gryphons were first on the scoreboard with a super goal in the opening seconds of the game. The Emu’s composed themselves from that moment on but trailed Downlands at the main break 17 -14.
The second half of the main game was a genuine goal fest with a total of 9 goals kicked compared to only 4 in the opening half. The Emu’s however got the better of their more inexperienced opponents and managed to run the game out with a hard fought 49-41 point victory. The grand final was in stark contrast to the Emu’s round 1 game where they were belted by NAB and captain Peter Roberts credited the grand final victory to some solid recruiting over the last few weeks. Downlands were gallant in defeat and impressed everyone with their pace and endeavour throughout the competition.
In the 3rd Vs 4th place game the A Team faced off against NAB. Much like the main game not much separated these two sides at the main break with the A Team holding a slender 2 point lead 18-16. In the second half however A Team captain Carly Ryan proved the difference with 2 super goals that helped her side to a comfortable 36-23 point victory.
All competing teams played all games in great spirit and are all eager for the next round of AFL 9’s later in the season. Congratulations to all involved.
