For the first time since 2000, the inaugural year of the revamped VFL, Richmond will field its own VFL team after ending its alignment with Coburg Tigers.
Richmond has recruited an impressive list of experienced players to supplement its AFL list headed by Ross Young who previously played VFL with the then Northern Bullants with ex-AFL players Aaron Davey and Andrew McQualter also expected to play, albeit cameo roles.
Ryan Bathie impressed for Geelong’s VFL club while James Wall is a dual best and fairest player at Casey as well as representing the VFL and Nathan Batsanis is a premiership player at Port Melbourne.
During its partnership with Coburg, Richmond was unable to gain any traction in playing finals. Richmond has added plenty of VFL depth so it will be interesting to track their season.
