The Holroyd Parramatta Goannas entered into an exciting new era when they unveiled their new seniors guernsey during their well-attended season launch on Thursday night. It features the Giants G centred on the front in the Goannas blue and gold club colours with shadowed Goannas behind it. Club President, Bob Mannion unveiled the new guernsey to an enthusiastic reception from the 100 assembled players and supporters.
"It symbolizes both the first letter of Goannas who have been in western Sydney for 36 years and our identification with the GWS Giants as the flagship of football in western Sydney. We have one of the best playing facilities in the metropolitan area at Gipps Rd Oval due to the support of Holroyd City Council, the NSW government and the AFL. We have a stable, experienced, administration, a loyal and generous group of sponsors and a growing football reputation. We are planning for elevation to the Premier League in the near future following our successful promotion to Division 1 in 2012." Mannion said.
Giants Senior Assistant coach, Alan McConnell was on hand to present the new jumpers to the first grade team after captivating the audience with a compelling speech about his beginnings in Victorian country community football and it importance to the game’s prosperity.
Long time sponsors, Merrylands RSL have recently expanded their support for the Goannas and the new guernsey features their logo. In the future it will expand even further as the Goannas juniors adopt the Giants/Goannas G, Merrylands RSL branded guernsey and merchandice.
The Giants and the Goannas are in the process of forging an even closer relationship in which will involve a number of practical outcomes which will benefit the growth of the game amongst the enormous potential AFL market in western Sydney.
As a starting point, the Goannas are confident that they can make a big impact on their competitions in 2014. Bring on the season!
