In 2014, the Darling Downs Under 14 Crows will be led by not one Tom but two for the AFL Brisbane Juniors Division 1 season. Tom Matthews and Tom Reardon have been announced as the teams Co-Captains, with four more players making up the six strong leadership group.
The all year representative program is designed to assist all aspiring footballers aged 13 or 14 from across the region, the opportunity to further develop themselves on and off-field through professional coaching and education sessions in a fun and friendly environment.
Into it's third year and with the Crows ending their first and second seasons in the preliminary finals, the new Co-Captains are looking to go one step further in 2014.
"We want to go one step further (this season), we just need to make sure we don't rely on one or two players," newly appointed co-captain Tom Matthews said.
"It was disappointing to not make the grand-final last season but I know we have what it takes to go all the way this year," Matthews added.
Both players were shocked to be appointed as Co-Captains and saw it as a career highlight so far.
"I didn't think I would be named Captain, it is a privilege and something that means a lot," Reardon told AFLDD media.
"This is one of my greatest footballing highlights so far, it definitely is," Tom Matthews added.
Regional Manager Keith Webb said that picking the two Tom's was a great decision.
"Both boys are natural leaders and their peers listen when they speak, they lead by example on the field also," Webb said of Reardon and Matthews appointment as Co-Captains.
"I take my hat off to the coaching staff and players on appointing the two Tom's as Co-Captains, they will do a superb job," Regional Manager Keith Webb told AFLDD media.
Reardon and Matthews will be joined by four more squad members to round out the 2014 leadership group in Harrison Claydon, Sam Tasker, Tyler Gilmore and Lachlan Davies. The Crows 2014 campaign kicks-off after the Easter school holidays, stay tuned for the preview of their round one clash.
