Darling Downs school sport have finalised the 2014 Under 12 school-boys side which will contest the State Championships in Townsville from the 4th to 8th June.
It was definitely tough process for the selectors with over 150-boys and girls across the region trying out for this school representative opportunity.
The side includes players from all over the Darling Downs with Kirby Morunga (Warwick Redbacks) the first ever student selected from the Stanthorpe region for the team. Two 10-year olds in Owen Debney (Toowoomba) and Caleb Denham-Back (Lockyer Valley) were selected in the final 22, proving age is no barrier.
Regional Manager Keith Webb was impressed with the talent on show and believes the side will be a strong contender to take out the State title come June.
"The selectors have done a great job in selecting a well-balanced side, with a good spread of experience," Webb told AFLDD Media.
"With 18-players top age, I believe we will have a good shot at bringing home the State title and a very good chance to have a few State selections also," Regional Manager Webb added.
Andrew Wickes (Concordia College) will again coach the side and will be joined by the very experienced Paul Keenan (Toowoomba East SS) and Shai Clement (Oakey SHS) at the State Championships.
