Strikers Continue Energy's Rocky Start

Brisbane Strikers made it back to back NPL Queensland wins, recording a convincing 7-2 victory against a youthful CQFC Energy at Rockhampton's Rugby Park on Saturday night.

A Jheison Macauce hat-trick fired the Strikers to the resounding win, with further goals to Matt Thurtell, Alex Schiavo and Scot Coulson, and a first half penalty strike from Keenan Duimpies.

Jared Lidy and Jordan Miller etched their names on the scoresheet for the home side.

The score line could have been more lopsided but for several superb saves by Energy keeper Andrew Poyser throughout the contest.

The Energy opened the scoring in the fifth minute when German playmaker Jared Lidy finished neatly after the ball fell to him in the penalty area from a corner kick.

However, the lead didn't last long as Macauce opened his account with a screamer from well outside the box.

Three minutes later and Poyser was picking the ball out of the back of the net once more when Duimpies converted a penalty. After Energy skipper Tolu Kayode had been judged to handle the ball in the area.

After several opportunities to extend their lead, Macauce made it 3-1 for the Strikers shortly before the interval when he got on the end of a great cross from Coulson.

The Energy, fielding several teenagers, changed defensive formation for the second half reverting to a back four.

But less than 60 seconds after the re-start they fell further behind when Macauce claimed his third goal with another shot from outside the area that, this time, found the bottom corner.

Coulson then got on the scoreboard himself, before Jordan Miller pulled one back for the Energy when he made the most of a error by Strikers' goalkeeper, David Chambers.

Miller, who was the Energy's best player on the night, hit the post with a late chance.

Further goals in the dying minutes to Thurtell, making his return from an injury for Strikers, and Schiavo completed the rout.
