The footy season may still be a few weeks away but School teachers across the region have been putting the hard yards in promoting our great game within the regions primary and secondary schools.
With school participation numbers on target for a record year, much of the thanks go to the promotion and running of Australian Rules in a number of schools across the region. From Wondai State School in the north, Lowood State School to the east and South West to Goondiwindi State High School teachers and every school in between, teachers have been spreading the word of our great game.
The School Ambassadors Program is a nation-wide initiative, rewarding outstanding service and work with AFL in schools with teachers recognised through the AFL School Ambassador of the Year award program.
Over fifty have registered so far for 2014 across the Darling Downs, with more signing up each day.
AFLQ Darling Downs keep track of the Ambassadors progress for the year with an incentive check-list, teachers receiving points for different programs they run and events they attend throughout the season.
Dan Fraser (Downland's College - Secondary) and Tim Lincoln (OLOSCC Dalby - Primary) currently lead their respective school sectors. Both are previous winners of the AFLQDD School Ambassador of the Year program, with Tim taking out the State title in 2011 and took the trip of a life-time to the Toyota AFL Preliminary Finals.
Tim has Al Aston of Fairview Heights State School hot on his heels, only 25points behind. Dan Fraser will be keeping a close eye on Nick Byron of Fairholme College who is only a mere 50-points behind.
