THREE under-16 graduates stood up in the top grade to star in the Warwick Redbacks' convincing victory in the Cardinal Cup at Reddies Oval yesterday.
The Warwick team beat Jimboomba 13.15. (93) to 8.5. (53) in the final of the Palace Hotel-sponsored competition yesterday morning.
Counting its three wins on Saturday, Warwick scored 247 points and conceded 77.
In the final, Warwick led by 23 points after the first quarter and was never headed.
Coach Jason Wright said the kids from the under 16s really stood out.
"Brent Walker showed maturity beyond his years in the mid-field contests," Wright said.
"Josh Read and James McKendry also played well."
While many regulars continued their fine form from last season, Wright was impressed with new recruits Ash Pitt, Adam Stevenson, Mitch Quaife and Ash Bilbrough.
"They fitted in well and will help develop our game to the next stage," he said.
The coach said the one concern was the team's last quarter when Warwick conceded 25 points and scored 13.
"We are still not playing four quarters of footy which is an area we have to work on," Wright said.
Warwick has now joined Jimboomba with three Cardinal Cup wins.
Wright said there was a significant degree of camaraderie between the players from the Warwick, Jimboomba, Lismore and Goondiwindi teams.
"A lot of the players have friends in the other clubs. It can get heated on the paddock," he said.
"There was barely a car parking space spare on Saturday, it was a great crowd."
