The Manly Wolves would like to welcome on board Samantha Engel as the coach of the inaugural women’s team in the 2014. A State Representative player from the ACT, having played the sport for over 12 years in both ...QLD and the ACT, she has witnessed the rise in popularity in the sport.
“Gone are the days where women’s teams played nine-a-side in a four team competition. We have been enjoying record growth in female participation for a number of years and here in Sydney field two divisions with and a total of 16 teams.”
“Right across Australia there is a complete player pathway now for girls; playing Auskick through to Youth Girls, then onto senior women’s footy.”
“I am really excited to be coaching this inaugural team and giving back to this great sport.”
Assistant Coach and Manager, Alisa Kelley is also excited to be on board. Having played two seasons with the Balmain Dockers, she decided to try and look for a team closer to home.
“With close to 20 girls recruited so far, my dream of a local team is becoming a reality” she said.
“We are placing an emphasis on fun and enjoying a new sport and encourage the women of the northern beach to come and have a kick.”
Training is twice a week in Curl Curl. If you would like further information please contact Alisa on 0409 877 503 or email manlyaflwomen@gmail.com.
