South Toowoomba are proud of their family first attitude and wanted to give more back to the community, so from 2014 onwards they have joined forces with the Starlight Children's foundation to help brighten the lives of seriously ill and hospitalised children, and their families, throughout not only Toowoomba but Australia.
Living with illness or injury can cause enormous strain in the lives of children and their families. The pain, loneliness and isolation that sick children feel dominates their lives, and they often miss out on normal experiences that healthy children take for granted.
Starlight provides programs integral to the total care of seriously ill children – while health professionals’ focus on treating the illness, Starlight is there to lift the spirits of the child, giving them the opportunity to laugh, play and be a child again.
South Toowoomba want to make sure that these integral programs continue to lift the spirits of the children living with serious illness.
"We as a club wanted to help and align ourselves with a foundation that we believed we could help the most and worked around the same values as us," club spokesperson Sophie Smith said.
"Starlight have and continue to do fantastic work of lifting the spirits, as well as giving these children the opportunity to laugh, play and be a child again," Smith added.
"We want to create a positive environment and Starlight is a foundation that is also very close to the clubs heart"
South Toowoomba AFC have planned many fundraising opportunities throughout 2014 and beyond to help raise funds and support the Starlight Foundation.
CEO Louise Baxter of Starlight Children’s Foundation Australia is delighted that a club, that is as highly respected as South Toowoomba has joined forces with the foundation.
“Every minute of every day a child is admitted to hospital somewhere in Australia, and for thousands there will be a diagnosis that will change their life forever. As Starlight receives no government funding, we are thankful for generous supporters such as the South Toowoomba Bombers, who help us to transform the experience of hospitalisation and treatment for seriously ill children, young people and their families,” said Louise Baxter, CEO, Starlight Children’s Foundation Australia.
Stay tuned for the Starlight cup and Bombers Ball in 2014, along with other events planned also. To find out more about the foundation head to www.starlight.org.au or for these club events head over to www.southtoowoombabombers.sportingpulse.net
