As part of the redevelopment of Picken Oval – home of the Western Suburbs Magpies - a fence has been constructed in readiness for the 2014 season.
The black cyclone fence both greatly adds to the aesthetics of the venue as well as protecting players, supporters and the ground itself. Key funding for the fence came from a NSW Government Community Building Partnership grant.
The redevelopment of Picken Oval consists of three stages with the fence part of Stage 2 which will also see a new scoreboard and interchange benches at the ground. The completed Stage 1 included drainage, irrigation and a new surface with Stage 3 to focus on upgraded lights. Thanks to the hard work of Warwick Polley and his support team the surface of Picken Oval has never looked better.
In 2014 Kevin Eynaud will again be director of coaching at the Western Suburbs Magpies, with the club having a strong and dedicated committee. The off season has been a busy time for the club securing new players. Also the licenced club adjacent to the ground - Magpie Sports - has been fully renovated thanks to the amalgamation with Canterbury-Hurlstone Park RSL.
2014 promises to be a productive year for the Western Suburbs Magpies both on and off the field.
