Football West delighted with NPL applications
Football West wishes to advise the applications window for inclusion in the National Premier Leagues WA has closed. In line with the application regulations, no further entries will be considered.
FW is extremely pleased with the response, both in terms of the number of applications and their overall quality, and thanks all clubs for their support in this exciting new initiative. In all, 25 applications have been received.
Chief executive Peter Hugg said clubs had thoroughly embraced the concept with an exceptional level of professionalism.
“We had many months of discussions with individuals and committee members, as well as seven information sessions, and it was clear there was an appetite for an improved elite competition,” Hugg said.
“I have been bowled over by the response. The number and quality of the applications are a solid vote of confidence in the NPL concept and we at Football West look forward to progressing this initiative over the next few months.
“Next season will be the first step towards a bigger and brighter future for football in this state. The NPL is not intended to be a football revolution but rather the catalyst for steady evolution and obvious improvement.
“The belief has always been that the best way to improve our game is with a long-term strategy. This message has been reiterated time and again during discussions with members of the football community, who, on the whole, have shared this view.”
Applications have been received from clubs across competitions controlled by FW, which will now commence an extensive assessment and evaluation process.
“The professional nature of some of the applications is extremely high and a credit to the club committees and testimony to what is possible,” Hugg said.
“We will look to work with the clubs to extend the same level of professionalism and commitment across a range of areas. The sport will be much better off having embraced the NPL.”
After evaluation, the board of Football West will meet in August to approve the participating clubs. No further announcement on the assessment process will be made in the intervening time.
