Southern Power AFC is pleased to announce that Simon Closter has been appointed as the Club Coach for the 2014 season.
Closter is a Life Member of the Power and in 2010, he coached the club to their Division 2 premiership, as well as co-coaching in 2011 and 2012, when the club finished runner-up on both occasions.
Club President, Lauren Hodgson, says the Committee is excited about the return of Closter to the Power. "We’re thrilled to have Simo back at the club", said Hodgson. "We believe his experience and knowledge of the game will help take us to the next level, but perhaps most importantly, it is his passion for the club and understanding of our culture and values, that will help us to succeed".
Assisting Closter in 2014 will be former Power player, Jack Dickens. Dickens has experience as a player with Springvale Districts in Victoria and in AFL Sydney with Premier Division clubs Balmain and St George and returns to the club with the vision of seeing the Power win back-to-back Division 1 premierships. Dickens is keen to learn about the coaching caper and is thrilled to be an assistant coach at the Power.
"I love footy and I’m passionate about helping take Southern Power to the next level. I’m excited to be starting my coaching career at the club and am keen to learn the ropes, whilst continuing to play’.
With the appointment of Closter as Club Coach and Dickens as his assistant, Southern Power would also like to announce that fellow Life Member Cameron Roe, will take the reins as the coach of Southern Power’s Reserve Grade side.
Closter, Dickens and Roe, join Matt Crowe (Women’s Coach) and Abe Caroca (U19s) on the club’s coaching panel for 2014, with the appointment of the Third Grade coach still to be finalised.
Southern Power pre-season training has resumed and is on Monday and Thursday evenings at Waratah Oval, Sutherland, from 6:30pm. All players - current, past and those new to AFL - are welcome to come along.
