The Millicent Basketballers representing SA Country in January were selected at State trials in Adelaide in November and they have travelled to Adelaide at least twice since, for training sessions. The players also have taken part in 12 x 2 hour trainings locally, during December and January conducted by local coaches Jenny Herbert and Peter Seebohm. Along with these trainings, all players have completed several shooting charts and scored a 1000 foul line shots which the players sought sponsorship from the community for, to assist with costs associated with their participation.

Athletes are selected to make State teams from country areas of South Australia after attending a tryout in Adelaide. At these trials local players were selected from groups of players of up to 40 to 80 players. Players selected for state country teams attend The Australian Junior Country Cup in Albury where they compete against teams from Victoria Country, NSW Country, Tasmania, W A, N T, New Zealand and from time to time invitational teams from Oceania and China. This event has been going for some 28 years and was originally started to give country players the same opportunities as their city counter parts to compete at the best level.
