There will be a new club to AFL Sydney in 2014 with the Wollondilly Knights joining the ranks.
The Knights, formerly of the South Coast AFL competition, will be a new addition to the Division Four competition.
Club President, Chris Underwood explained better opportunities were behind the decision to move north.
“To be in the same league as, and to create a better pathways for our juniors who wish to continue their football at a senior level (is our motivation),” he said.
“Also the many levels of competition keeps it a competitive game through the divisions.”
The Wollondilly Knights have approx 30 players and a fully appointed committee, consisting of current players and a few partners.
“Our club has a strong family atmosphere. Many of our players have young families and we encourage them to be active in the club,” Underwood said.
“I joined the club five years ago, with very little knowledge of AFL and the thing that hooked me in first was how the people in the club welcomed my family into the club.”
Underwood believes the Knights will be competitive in 2014.
“We have the ability to be competitive, but we just need to work together for a full game which in the past has resulted in some very close losses,” he said.
