In a quest to improve on their third place finish in 2013, St George have been active in securing a handful of handy recruits.
Former Illawarra Lions player Tom Green has joined the Dragons from Illawarra who were relegated to Division One for the 2014 season. As a 19 year old, Tom has already played 48 Premier Division games for Illawarra as well as numerous Sydney South/Pigeons representative teams in a distinguished junior career.
Impressive 18 year old, Karl Merson has also been recruited by the Dragons for season 2014. At such a young age, Merson has an eye catching resume. Merson came out of the Sydney Hills Eagles junior development program which included playing a number of NEAFL games for the club. In 2013, Merson played 22 games for WAFL club Perth before returning to Sydney to be closer to family with brother Ben coaching the Dragons Division One side in 2014.
St George has also widened their net to Rugby League with Cameron Breust also announcing he will join the club. Breust had a distinguished junior rugby league career which included stints with the Canberra Raiders Juniors for three years, being selected to play for Australia in the school boys competition in which he played against England, France, and New Zealand, as well as playing Toyota Cup for Parramatta Eels before moving to St. George Illawarra in 2012.
In 2013, Breust was selected to play for Australia in the University World Cup in England and France. After playing some junior football in Wagga Wagga growing up, Breust has come across to AFL at the age of 22 for the challenge of succeeding at a new sport as well as being inspired by his cousin Luke Breust who was an important member of the Hawthorn 2013 premiership team.
St George have also recruited some first year and returning players which will improve numbers and hopefully bring about some premiership glory.
