AFTER taking some great leaps forward this year, AFL Darling Downs president Andrew Foley says 2014 will be about continuing to build on those new initiatives.
The AFLDD held its annual general meeting on Sunday with Peter Denham the only new appointment to the executive, taking over as vice-president of the juniors.
The board also officially passed the amalgamation of the senior and junior leagues, which had been trialled this season, with Foley to oversee the unified league and Trevor Green vice-president of the seniors.
But the big talking point for 2014 will be the possibility of two senior men's divisions.
The senior competition grew by almost a quarter last season with the formation of Chinchilla and South Burnett but those clubs struggled for on-field success.
Foley said splitting the 11-team competition into two divisions, including the three current reserve grade sides, would help the newer clubs to be more competitive.
"We called for expressions of interest from clubs to see if they want to play divisional footy," he said.
"To make a division two viable, we need about seven teams. We're hoping one or two clubs will have reserves and then a couple of teams that struggled a bit will consider going down to be more competitive."
The women's competition is on track to at least double in size for next season while Foley said the league would also look at providing more representative opportunities for its under-16s.
"We took some great leaps forward last year. Now we want to consolidate to make those clubs stronger," Foley said
