MORWELL Pegasus will officially be welcomed back in to the Gippsland Soccer League central division today.

An influx of former Pegasus players returning to the club has equipped the Morwell side with the quality and quantity necessary to field senior, reserve grade, under 21 and junior teams in 2014 central competition.

The move will see Pegasus depart the newly formed south division, where it played this season, which was preceded by a stint in the central second division.

Pegasus has been in discussion with the GSL for the past three months after discontent with south division travel times prompted the plan to switch.

“A lot of the players who are ex-Pegasus want to come and they want to come back and play for the club (in the central division),” Pegasus spokesperson Graham Bye said.

“We hope it will go really good because we’re all for it and working very hard to get it going.

“The club’s looking forward to coming back... we’ll be a competitive side.”

Pegasus’ re-insertion will create an uneven 11 team competition with a bye round, but GSL chair David Wilson said the door was open for a 12th team to come on board.

“We’ve allowed for a 12 team competition for Trafalgar or Drouin or any other side that wishes to come back in can come back in automatically,” Wilson said.

Should a 12th team be included, the GSL would implement a promotion/relegation system whereby any potential incoming team would have to challenge the wooden spooner to gain entry to the central division.

Wilson said the GSL was also working toward the creation of an east division in 2015.
