Family Ties For QAS Youngster

Sunshine Coast Fire youngster Henry Hore is proudly following in the footsteps of his brother, and current Brisbane Roar Youth player, Mitch Hore, after a successful trial with Queensland Academy of Sport.

The Fire Under 14’s midfielder will train with the QAS three times a week ahead of the NTC Challenge in Canberra this December, after impressing for the Queensland Metro side at the National Youth Championship in Coffs Harbour recently.

Henry follows older brother Mitch on the QAS pathway, the latter earning a place in Roar’s youth team following an impressive season with Josh McCloughan’s Academy side in the NPL Queensland seniors.

The 17 year old scored Roar’s second goal on Saturday at Goodwin Park in the National Youth League opener against Melbourne Victory; and, not surprisingly, Henry cites his older brother as one of his biggest football influences.

A humble Henry said of the trial, “I was excited for the opportunity but not overly confident as I thought I hadn’t played well enough at Nationals.”

Ben Cahin, Henry’s coach in the Sunshine Coast Fire Under 14’s, said, “He is very modest but has been a huge part of our team for the last two years.”

“He has had some wonderful achievements already, making the state team two years in a row, making the All-Stars and now of course his selection in the QAS. He is a very intelligent and composed footballer who goes about his business quietly.”

“I wish him all the best at the QAS and have no doubts that he will work hard and shine at that level.”

Technical Director Kevin A’herne–Evans echoed his coach’s sentiments.

“We are delighted and very proud of Henry for this wonderful achievement. His selection into the QAS is testimony for his hard work and dedication striving to improve every aspect of his game,” A’herne-Evans said.

“Henry has a lot of hard work ahead, however under the guidance of the QAS coaches and of course the influence and experience his brother will provide, I am sure he will grasp the opportunity and continue to flourish," he surmised.

Henry made sixteen appearances for the Fire Under 14 Boys in NPL competition this season, scoring six goals.
