AFLDD Media review the season of each of the regions clubs, reviewing the season that was including the club highlights and key moments throughout 2013.
Pittsworth Power JAFC is the second on the club review system and continued to fly the flag of Australian Rules in the small community town of Pittsworth. Matthew Leuenberger and a number of Brisbane Lions players help launch the 2013 season for Pittsworth at the annual sign on day in February.
From here Auskick kicked off with record numbers, as Pittsworth Power ran their very own centre with former Brisbane Bears player Doug Maxwell coordinating the centre.
Pittsworth entered three teams into the 2013 AFLDDJ competition which included Under 8's and 10's teams and also an Under 12 team into the McDonald's Trophy competition. It might not of been an overall successful year on field for the Power, with only three wins but those three wins were very important to the season that was.
Their first win was a 10-goal victory over newcomers South Burnett Saints, while the second victory for Power was also over the other new-comers Chinchilla SUNS. Pittsworth ran out 74-point victors, a record win for the club in their short history. Jacob Martens had a day out in front of the sticks, booting personal season high bag of six majors. Martens also took out the clubs leading-goal kicker for the McDonald's Trophy.
The most impressive win, was the Powers' upset win over powerhouse club Toowoomba East. Pittsworth were too strong and recorded a 23-point victory in their first win over a Toowoomba club in their history. Brandon Hindmarsh led the way with a best on ground performance including four majors.
A historic moment not only for the league but for Aussie Rules in Pittsworth, as Coolaroo hosted Goondiwindi in their 'A' Grade Round 14 clash at Pittsworths home venue Bridgman Oval. Coolaroo won this historic match up over the Hawks to the tune of 91-points.
Pittsworth also hosted the AFLDDJ Under 8's and 10's carnival, which saw 300plus budding superstars run around Bridgman Oval, as Australian Rules was on full display for the Pittsworth community.
Highlight for the club for their volunteers was when Justine Fristch as announced as the 2013 AFL Darling Downs Female Coach of the Year at the Volunteers Function in Toowoomba. Pittsworth Power JAFC recently held their awards afternoon at the Pittsworth pool.
Full list of award winners are below. With 37 members in 2013, Pittsworth will be looking to Power to new heights in 2014. Well done to Mike Bauld, along with the entire Pittsworth JAFC players, coaches, volunteers, sponsors and supporters on a terrific season.
