Andrew Smith has been part of the Darling Downs football community for almost 15 years, taking on numerous volunteer roles at the South Toowoomba football club, but also as a member of the league executive.
Andrew has a mantra we can all learn from, always beleiving that the most important part of football is the game itself, as opposed to any individual club's views. Even in his role as a club delegate, this attitude shone through and is one of the primary reasons for his awarding of life membership.
Andrew began playing footy back in Tasmania in the late 60's, before progressing through the junior and senior ranks with the Myalla & Wynyard clubs with his three brothers. Upon moving to the Downs in 1999 he quickly became involved as a volunteer with the South Toowoomba AFC. He took on coaching the Under 10s in 2000 and has slowly progressed over the years to still be Under 16s coach at the club.
Never one to rest on his laurels, Andrew beleives that you need to personally get involved to make a difference. Every year his volunteer workload at club land has increased where in 2012 he had no less than 7 different roles.
He also took on the role of AFL Darling Downs Treasurer in 2007, a role he still holds 7 seasons later.
Although Andrew is eyeing transitionig himself out of official roles in he future, his enthusiasm and willingness to always help out will no doubt continue to see him help shape Australian Football on the Downs for many years to come.
