With the footy season over for most, Lockyer Valley President Tony Bowers', season hasn't quite finished just yet. Bowers has recently returned from the Northern Territory after participating in the 2013 AFL Masters National Championships in Darwin for the Queensland over 45's div 1 side.
Bowers played his first game of Australian Rules at the age of ten and played until he was 16 years of age in the then named Under 16 Shell Cup. Tony had to put football on hold for several years due to his health but returned to the footy field at the age of 40.
This is from where Tony put up his hand to coordinate the start-up of the Lockyer Valley's very own footy club once again and the Lockyer Valley Demons were born.
With 280 careers games across juniors and seniors, Tony represented Queensland for the fourth time in consecutive years and will continue for State honours as long as he can.
"The comradeship of all players and the atmosphere of this event is a huge part, and of course for the love of the game and the spirit in which it is played,” Bowers told AFLDD Media on why he wants to keep returning.
Tony was selected as an All Australian last year and is pushing for this again.
“Being selected in the All Australian team last was an honour and I will strive for this again,”
Queensland had an up and down championships but their most notable win came against the big V, Queensland defeated Victoria by 10-points in the final round robin match up. Bowers lined up on the half-forward flank and enjoyed the experience of running on the Northern Territory’s premier surface at Tio Stadium.
