AFLDD Media review the year that was, highlighting key programs, events and exciting news stories that happened throughout each month.
February was 'go' month for footy on the Darling Downs with launches, school footy kicking off, first representative players announced for the year and the Brisbane Lions visiting.
The second month of the year kicked off with the AFLQDD School Coles Ambassador launch with teachers from across the region coming from all parts of the region for the function. 59 primary and secondary teachers registered as ambassadors in 2013, as 3,000+ students participated in AFL programs throughout the year.
Lockyer Valley, South Toowoomba and Warwick launched their 2013 campaigns for female players promoting the slogan "from Handbag to Handball".
The Under 18 Darling Downs Crows announced their withdrawal from the U18 SEQAFL competition due to insufficient player and volunteer support. With the remaining players urged to return to their local club or pursue playing at a higher level.
Our Lady of the Southern Cross College started their campaign for their sixth straight Dalby Swans Cup as Dalby South and Dalby State Schools planned on a maiden title.
Dan Mauch (Dalby),Scott Baker (Highfields), Will Krause (Souths), Nathan Mills (Souths), Josh Read (Warwick), Peter Rose (Coolaroo), Brock Dignan (Dalby), Harry Milford (Dalby), Josh White (University) & Sam Flannery (Souths) gained entry into the final training squad for the Under 16 Brisbane West representative side.
One of the biggest events of February and the year, was the Australia Post Community Camp when the Brisbane Lions visited the Darling Downs. The mighty Lions returned to Grantham, went back to school, added some extra bite to the 2013 AFLDD season launch, showed heart in Dalby, helped local clubs with their sign ons and also visited the Toowoomba Base Hospital.
It was a busy February, one that set the tone for what was a very busy season 2013.
