She has played AFL for less than a year and is already on the Australian Indigenous female under 18s squad. Just like her dad's cousin Cathy Freeman, there is no stopping Shaleise Law.
The Wondai 15-year-old who boards at St Saviour's College in Toowoomba, has her pick of sporting codes, having already played for Queensland in rugby league and touch football teams. The Year 10 student is known for her speed and at the National Championships, took out the leading goal-kicker award. Shaleise kicked more goals than any other player at the inaugural AFL National Female Kickstart Championships in late September.
Shaleise only has minimal experience with just school footy in Year 8 and Under 16 School-Girls State Championships this year.
" I like how competitive you can get in the game," Shaleise said on playing AFL.
"It's fast and more intense," she added.
AFL Queensland Female Programs co-ordinator Breeanna Brock said apart from being the Kickstart Championship lead goal kicker, Shaleise also had a skill for reading the play, was small, fast and did play hard.
