The Werribee Tigers have unveiled John Lamont as their new senior coach, replacing Scott West.
Lamont has spent the past seven season working as a development coach with the Tigers’ AFL affiliate North Melbourne, including the last three in a role that saw him helping Werribee’s coaching staff, particularly on match days.
Originally from Benalla, Lamont coached TAC Cup regions Oakleigh Chargers (1998-2002) and the Eastern Rangers (2003-2006) prior to joining the Kangaroos in 2007.
Werribee CEO Mark Penaluna said Scott had advised the Tigers of a desire to pursue other coaching opportunities.
The former Western Bulldogs champion led the Tigers to consecutive preliminary finals in his two years as senior coach.
“Scott showed he is a very knowledgeable football person with the coaching ability to take our club to two preliminary finals and that is a credit to his planning and preparation,” Penaluna said.
“The club wants to thank Scott for his contribution to the Werribee Football Club and we wish him well for his future endeavours in football.”
In other news at Werribee, youngster Luke McDonald was yesterday nominated by North Melbourne‘s as its first round selection in the NAB AFL Draft under the father/son rule.
The Kangaroos will give up their prized No.8 pick to secure the highly rated son of 155-game veteran and now club administrator Donald McDonald.
Despite still being eligible to play in the TAC Cup this season, the 18-year-old spent the majority of the season under the watch of the Kangaroos at Werribee.
After captaining Vic Metro at the NAB AFL U18 Championships, the classy left footer returned to be one of the Tigers’ best in their ultimately unsuccessful finals campaign.
Emerging Werribee big man Ben Brown could join McDonald in the draft after performing well at last week’s NAB AFL Draft Combine at Etihad Stadium.
