Sydney-based boundary umpire, Michael Saunders has been selected to officiate the 2013 AFL Grand Final.
Michael becomes the second VFL/AFL Grand Final umpire from NSW/ACT behind Michael Heinrichs who officiated at the 2000 AFL Grand Final in the goals.
Michael originally from Melbourne started his umpiring career with the Victorian Amateur Football Association before moving to Sydney in 2008.
With a vacancy on the AFL List in 2009 Michael was quickly promoted onto the AFL. His first finals appearance was in 2011 and this season celebrated his 100th game on the boundary.
Not only is Michael an elite umpire but has always been willing to share his experiences and knowledge to his fellow umpiring colleagues not matter their standard in the pursuit of developing the game.
Michael has done a number of AFL Sydney games and we congratulate him on this fantastic achievement.
