Inaugural President of the South Burnett Saints, Daniel Clacy has been awarded the 2013 Senior Club Volunteer of the Year award at last Saturday's Volunteer Recognition Night.
Clacy's hard work began back in July last year, agreeing to become the inaugural President of a club which didn't quite exist. Clacy helped rally a band of dedicated volunteers to help find players, coaches and supporters for the fledgling club.
Daniel went to numerous meetings with MP's, ran sausage sizzles and handed out flyers at local shopping centres to gain support for the side.
He also helped gain sponsorship, supported the NAB AFL Auskick program and immediately put his hand up to help any initiative which would help the Saints get off the ground.
Daniel grew up in the area, playing for the now defunct Jets & Bulldogs clubs. Although he never shied away from the reasoning for wanting a football club running again in the area, so he could play again, the focus he has placed on developing a strong club where everyone can play, is a testament to the workload he has put in.
Moving into their second season next year, Clacy has agreed to stay on as President and lead the club into a whole new raft of challenges as the club works towards ensuring they become a force in years to come.
Daniel has now been nominated as the regional winner for the State Senior Club Volunteer of the Year award to be announced in November.
