Western Wolves veteran, Michaela Ekman was named as the captain of the Women’s Team of the Year announced on Phelan Medal Night.
First year coach, Yucel Celenk was rewarded for his application and ultimately Premiership success with the Sydney University side by being named as Coach.
Eight of the clubs were evenly represented in this year’s Team with Balmain having the most representatives (six), while the Western Wolves and Sydney University both had four players named.
This year’s side featured both Best and Fairest players- Madelane Collier (Division One) and Amanda Farrugia (Division Two).
The Women’s Team of the Year was selected by the AFL Sydney Women’s Coaches, and an Independent Panel, based on the following criteria:
- Players must have played at least 50% of matches;
- The Coaches could not pick players from their own clubs
The selections were based on the following categories with the team to comprise 18 on field players, 4 Interchange Players, Captain and Coach:
- Defenders (six (6) players to be chosen)
- Midfielders (eight (8) players to be chosen)
- Forwards (six (6) players to be chosen)
- Ruckmen (two (2) to be chosen)
