Parkes represented in Football NSW Grand Finals

This Sunday will see Parkes being well represented in the Western NSW Mariners Football Club teams set to play in the Football NSW Regional Youth Grand Finals being held at Glen Willow Stadium in Mudgee. Blake Medlyn and Corey McDean will play in the Under 12s Grand Final against Southern Branch along side team Manager Kevin Medlyn, while Tyler McMahon and Coach Cameron Stone will contest for the Under 15s title against Nepean.

In what has been a big season for all involved the Western NSW Mariners will be looking for a clean sweep in the Regional Youth League Grand Finals with all 4 teams (Under 12, 13, 14 and 15s) vying for the title to be called the first ever Football NSW Regional Youth League champions.

The vision set out by Football NSW for the Regional Youth League was to provide youth male players a development opportunity between community and Football NSW Premier League football. The Regional Youth League was set out to prepare players for the tactical and technical challenges of Football NSW Premier League competitions. Affiliated Football Association, Clubs and Branches were given the opportunity to align their development programs with the National Curriculum and unite within the Regional Youth League umbrella to deliver a consistent football development opportunity.

In the first game of the day kicking off at 10am in Mudgee the Under 12s will be in for a tight match when they take on Southern Branch who they have met previously on four occasions during the course of the competition with two wins, a draw and a loss. The Under 12s qualified for the final after coming from 2-0 to score twice in the final five minutes to force extra time against Sutherland Shire with the final score being 5-2.

The Under 15s will play the final game of the day at 2.30pm and will also be in for a tight match when they take on Nepean who they have played on two occasions this season having had a draw and a loss. The 15s qualified for the final after overcoming Football South Coast in a penalty shoot out 4-3 after scores were locked at 1-1 at full time.

In the other games being held on the day the Under 13s will take on Northbridge FC at 11.30am and the Under 14s will come up against Granville Rage at 1pm.
