Well footy heads, with only 2 weeks of footy left in Ontario I must admit, I am getting a little emotional.
Usually known for masking my emotions, its a little sad to see the football season coming to an end so quickly! This weekend is Preliminary Final weekend with only 3 games between Division 1 and the Women's with everyone aiming for a spot in the Grand Final.
Division 2 also has two Preliminary Finals and funnily enough the Hawks, Dingos and Rebels have teams in both Divisions! While the Demons are the only team to have Division 1 and Women's Division Teams competing for Grand Final berths. Congratulations and good luck to all teams!
Broadview Hawks v High Park Demons - UTSC
I have been hearing chatter and whispers all week that the Demons are going to take out the Hawks for sure! Ask people to put money on it and everyone has short arms and deep pockets. Put your money where your mouth is footy fans!
We all know It is too hard to go past the Hawks in this one as they are the clear flag favourites and a win this week will put them one step closer.
I always mention the likes of Dullard and Shuttleworth, and more recently Mitchell who will cause havoc for the Demons on match ups. The Demons will no doubt have their hands full with this trio but its the likes of Willis, Bowley, Cragg, Hurley and even Royle who will really stretch the Dees.
The Dees may have played some fairly good footy to get into the Finals and even got a little help from Lady Luck in a RED dress last week, but Kelly, Quigley and Loughnane aren't going to win them the game. The Hawks won't be silly enough to get red cards, their best player most definitely not.
The Demons will need everyone to play above themselves tomorrow to get over the Hawks, but most of all Mitchell, Casey, Simnett, Tinglin and to a lesser extent, the creepy Ireland. Ash Martin could be back in the side but unless he has his hockey stick, he will probably have little impact.
Phantom Prediction - Hawks out to an early lead, maintaining control all day and cruising to the Grand Final - 35 points.
Toronto Dingos v Toronto Rebels - Humber South
They may have tanked last week, but the Dingos will have everyone back this week I am sure of it. Jimmy Duggan may have sent me some private tweets about the side but I am not sure I believe him. I am sure this week will see the likes of OB, Wade and Brady returning to their line up but unfortunately no Tom Evans for the Dingos.
Despite having come off a couple of big losses, the Dingos are proud and will be ready to bounce back and take their opportunities this week.
Stewart and McKay will not be on their own this week but will need some strong support from Spider, Wellsy, Yoni and Bossey. And lets not forget Bell who could also give them something!
The Rebels played a solid team game last week and will need to do the same again this week to have a shot over the Dingos. They did take the Dingos early in the season, but 2-3 months later its a different story and different teams on the park. Bodnar, Fabs, Karavias and Winks will need to be in the best, with strong support of guys like Duffy, Behie and Love.
I know the Dingos have lost a few, but they are definitely short priced favourites in my book in this game. Rebels second half of the season too up and down to get my vote of confidence.
Phantom Prediction - Dingos by 3 goals
WOMEN
High Parks Demons v Ottawa Swans - UTSC
The Swanettes travel to Toronto for the second week in a row after taking out the Roos last week. A little bit less travel time and a smaller field may suit the Swans, but there is no doubt they are up against it. The Demons were reeling after their late upset from the Wildcats on the weekend and will be looking to make amends on Saturday.
The Demons really do have a little too much depth for the Swans, especially with all the Gaelic players who help to move the ball well. Loughnane, Czyzo and Roarty are the main ones to look out for.
Ottawa will need everyone to play well this week and no doubt their big 3 in Dickinson, Bodashefsky and Costanza will need to play their best footy.
Phantom Prediction - Demons by 20 points - Difficult to go past the Dees in this one, though they beatable, the one loss just a chink in their armour!
Well that's it Footy Heads! Should be a great day of footy tomorrow spread between two great locations. While I am here I am going to take the Dingos and Hawks in Division 2 matches against the Blues and Rebels respectively, setting up a Hawks v Dingos Division 1 and 2 Grand Final next weekend! Good luck all teams!
