Minor Premiers University, have secured a spot in the 2013 Allied Pickfords decider after a gutsy 6-point win over Coolaroo in the Qualifying Final.
Finals footy was at its finest in the opening term as both sides started very physical and the four goal to two opening term, saw the Cougars take a slim 13-point advantage into the first break. University looked dangerous and converted four of their seven scoring shots. Young Roo, Adam Green was the only contributor booting the Roos only two goals for the quarter.
It was a similar affair in the second term as University kicked another four goals and hard running Roos only again booting two, once again Green chipped in with one, while midfielder Phil Dreise added the other. Coolaroo were inaccurate and the margin could of been a lot closer had they converted more of their seven shots on goal.
University held a handy 22-point lead at the main break.
Coolaroo regrouped at half-time and came out swinging in the third quarter, booting four goals one behind for the term. The Roos defence stood up and knuckled down keeping the Cougars to just the one goal for the quarter. Coolaroo cut the margin back to nine-points after another impressive display of hard running team footy.
It was a nailing biting final term with the Coolaroo defence again standing up and keeping the Cougars to only one goal but University did have their opportunities booting four behinds in the process. The Roos two final term goals weren't enough as the Cougars hung on for a 6-point victory, booking their place in the 2013 decider.
Veterans Garry Wade and Heath Gniel along with Josh Timmer in defence were instrumental in setting up the victory. For Coolaroo young players Carl Horsfall (defence) and Michael Langton (mid) were impressive in the losing side.

Meanwhile over at Rockville Oval, reigning premiers Toowoomba stormed home in a comfortable 74-point win over the Redbacks. Warwick made the most of their shots on goal kicking an impressive and very accurate 9.2 for the game.
Tigers were too good though in the second term booting seven goals to put the result away. Josh Andrews was superb up forward bagging six for the afternoon while ten other Tigers registered on the scorers sheet to progress Toowoomba to a Preliminary Final showdown against Coolaroo.
