Coach of the Toowoomba East Stingers Under 8s side, Andrew Bell, has won the 2013 AFL Darling Downs Junior Coach of the Year award, announced at Saturday night's Volunteer Recognition Night.
Despite being in just his second year of coaching, Andrew has taken it upon himself to develop the youth of the club and teach them the basics of our great game. Through a series of interactive games, he develops the kids core football skills, while maximising enjoyment at all times.
Andrew's focus on involviong the Under 14 Stingers players in the team is ultimately what seperated him from the list of worthy recipients. Andrew has recognised that children learn best from older children and has enlisted the help of the Stingers 'seniors' to help with training during the week and umpiring of games on a matchday.
He also takes on an active role on the committee, despite not holding any official position and is certainly someone the Stingers are blessed to have in their club.
Andrew has now been nominated as the regional winner for the State Junior Coach of the Year award to be announced in November.
