THE Werribee Tigers have condemned the Casey Scorpions to another straight set finals exit after a convincing 40-point victory in today's Peter Jackson VFL semi final.
The Tigers sprinted clear after a tight first half to prevail 19.10 (124) to 12.12 (84) and book a date with Box Hill Hawks in next Sunday's preliminary final.
Five unanswered goals either side of the main break from the Tigers proved pivotal as the Scorpions were bundled out in the second week of the final series for second straight year.
Addam Maric and Ben Warren booted four goals each to lead the Tigers’ charge, while Jackson Davis chimed in with two.
Despite Scorpions big man Max Gawn dominating the hitouts, the Tigers wrestled control in the middle with an on-ball brigade of considerable depth.
Captain Ben Ross was all class with 24 disposals, while Jarred Moore (22) and Jordan Gysberts (27) fought tooth and nail at the stoppages to provide Maric and co with enough opportunity.
The Tigers had winners across the field with Scott Clouston and Sam Wormald pivotal in the back half and youngster Luke McDonald doing plenty of damage with his long raking left foot.
The usual suspects; Tom Couch (38 disposals) and James Magner (33) led the Scorpions’ resistance, while Luke Tynan and Neville Jetta mopped up across half back with aplomb.
Tim Smith snared four goals for the losers but had little impact in the second half.
The key forward was at the centre of the Scorpions’ first half charge that saw them lead by 12 points midway through the second term.
But from nothing, Ben Brown’s goal off the ground sparked the Tigers into action.
Ross followed up with another soon after and when Clouston wobbled one through, his side had regained the ascendancy.
The Tigers never looked back and a powerful third quarter saw them enter the last change 31 points up.
Mitch Gent gave the Scorpions some home with opening goal of the final term but when Maric out-bodied Jetta to take a clever mark and kick his fourth, the Tigers were home.
The Tigers now confront Box Hill Hawks, fresh from a week off, in a mouth-watering prelim next Sunday at North Port Oval.
