Wedderburn’s Captain Danny Benaim won the toss and elected to kick with the aid of a slight breeze but it was the Demons captain in James Coatsworth who registered the first score of the match when his set shot brought up both flags.
The Demons even in the early part of the game sent a strong signal to the Redbacks that they were on a mission to advance through to the next round of the finals series. Wedderburn responded through Barnes who brought up the Redbacks first goal, Rose soon after registered the Redbacks second goal and the Redbacks were starting to use the breeze to their advantage. Coatsworth who had showed some positive signs and was right in the mix of the game brought up his second goal and the Demons levelled the scores. From this point on the Wyche-Narraport machine kicked into gear as they went about building a good lead. Wedderburn were unable to match the Demons and at the first break trailed by nine points.
The second term seen the Demons start to break the game up, as they continued their form from the first quarter, where they posted the last three goals of that quarter and added another three goals to their tally before the Redbacks were able to strike back through Reiffel. Coatsworth who was causing the Redbacks some problems up forward again got into the action when he kicked his fourth goal. Wycheproof-Narraport had been able establish a bit of a break on Wedderburn and held a 24-point lead late in the quarter before the Redbacks were able to close the gap to just twelve points at the half way mark. Dillon, Jones and Coatsworth were the main contributors for the Demons and Wedderburn were kept in the game by solid performances from Herdman, McHugh and Barnes, with only two goals separating these two top sides the large crowd were expecting a tight second half of quality football.
After the break the Redbacks repeated their efforts of their last meeting when they had a strong third term to get a break on the Demons. Herdman and Barnes kicked five goals between them for the Redbacks and at three quarter time they had turned a twelve point deficit into a twenty two point lead.
Wycheproof-Narraport signalled in the early part of the last term that they were not a spent force when they registered the first two goals to pull back the Redbacks lead, but that is where it ended with Wedderburn kicking into top gear and kick the last four goals of the game to run out winners by six goals at full time. The Demons season is now over at senior level but they did not go down without a good fight and they gave their all to make it through to the next round of the finals series but the Redbacks who have been in splendid form over the past few weeks now gets the opportunity to advance and their recent form suggests that they will mount a strong challenge to defend their premiership title, which they have carried for the past two seasons. The Redbacks will now prepare for their next match in two weeks when they face up to either Charlton or St Arnaud at Boort.

After a slow start the Demons recovered to take our this game by 15-points and upset the Redbacks who most judges predicted would take out the match and looked as though they would feature well in the finals series, but they now bow out the Demons continue on with the chance of advancing through to the major playoff’s.
