West Coast Hawks have set up an expected re-match with the Bulldogs next week at Elliston after strangling Western Districts. The Hawks lead at every change, extending their lead as they went, the Tigers having no answers for a tight defence and control over the centreline.
Dylan Kelsh dominated across centre, Dillon Montgomerie creative use of the ball, setting up slick ball movements forward. Goals shared, Jake Sargent with four, and he will be crucial again for the Hawks next week. Good to see Steed Sutherland back in the fold, two goals, but more importantly a game under the belt. Tyson Montgomerie continues his wonderful form, probably as good as pre the knee op, and it is certainly good seeing him cover the ground.
The Tigers were well served again by their trusty centreline battery, Dylan Beinke, Scott Feltus, Braydn King, Shannon Horgan, with Jesse Hull sturdy in defence also. While they have been able to match the two leading clubs defensively, they have just not been able to find a regular route to the goal front. The future does look good for the Tigers, the King brothers have been great all year, Callum Hebbermann's star is rising and maybe the return of Truman Hoffrichter and Thomas Lee next year, all representing talented youth. Surely a couple more good years left in the old war horse Scotty Feltus, and Shannon Horgan is another who has excelled all year.
The Hawks made it a double on the day winning the B Grade also. Five goals to each Jason McGilvray, Darren Brown and Tyson Squire, Kyle Tucker chipping in with three. Very much like Wirrulla, there is scoring ability aplenty, so the grand final should be a classic. The Bulldogs found themselves outgunned for most of the day, resting several players for the A Grade side next week, but they battled on bravely. Shaun Murphy didnt do his chances for selection in next weeks A Grade any harm with a hard running display, and the big veterans Jeff Bigg, Justin Schultz and Jamie Tomney others to do well.
Central Eyre outlasted the fast finishing Magpies and an entralling Colts match, again Kane Grocke playing well with 5 majors. The Bulldog running brigade worked hard, Brandons - North and Waters capitalising from good work out of the centre by Toby Kelly and Brett McComb. Jack Wilkins kicked 4 for the Maggies and Frazer Douglass played an outstanding game, kicking four also. Rhys Habermann and Darcy Martin also enjoying the increased pressure of finals, Harry Petty proved his versatility kicking three for the Maggies. The Bulldogs are entitled to enter the Grand Final full of confidence, they are playing excellent football, team oriented, have forwards who are getting their hands on the ball and a good blend of young talent.
All eyes now to Elliston next week, congratulations to all teams making it to the final, always a week of excitement and expectation, and no doubt some nerves for most too.
