Manly-Warringah’s historic first year in Premier Division prompted us to do some research to see where recent premiers have finished after the end of the regular season.
Obviously finishing first is the way to go, especially since AFL Sydney adopted a five-team finals series in 2008. Since then three of the five premierships have gone to the minor premier, including the last two years.
No side in the last ten years has won the premiership from lower than third place after the regular season.
